About this tour

Pindari Glacier Trek – An Epic Himalayan Journey

The Pindari Glacier Trek, nestled in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar district, is a moderate-level adventure that takes you through remote villages, lush meadows, and glacial rivers. Reaching a height of 3,660 meters (12,008 feet) at Pindari Zero Point, the trek not only showcases the raw beauty of the Himalayas but also highlights the visible impact of climate change on the region’s glaciers.

Starting and ending at Khati Village (2,210 meters / 7,251 feet)—the last motorable point—the trek covers a total distance of about 50 km (round trip). Along the route, you’ll pass through Dhoor Village (2,500 meters), offering majestic views of Himalayan giants like Nanda Kot (6,861m), Maiktoli (6,803m), and Panwali Dwar (6,663m).

As you ascend to Phurkiya (3,250 meters), the last rest stop before the glacier, the trail becomes even more scenic, featuring wooden bridges, glacial streams, and peaceful alpine landscapes. Whether you’re a nature lover or an adventure seeker, this trek is a perfect blend of challenge and serenity.

Itinerary

Your adventure kicks off with an early morning pickup from Kathgodam Railway Station at 6:30 AM. The scenic drive takes you through beautiful spots like Bhimtal, Almora, Bageshwar, Kapkot, Bharadi, and Dhoor, before reaching Khati Village (2,210m) by 5:00 PM.

Khati, the last motorable village on the trek, has a rich history of hosting trekkers and adventurers. After settling into a cozy homestay, you'll enjoy dinner with your fellow trekkers. In the evening, your trek leader will provide a briefing on the trek ahead, covering key details, challenges, and safety tips for a smooth journey.

The real adventure begins! After an early breakfast at 7:00 AM, we start trekking towards Dwali (2,850m). This 13 km trail is a mix of gradual ascents and long stretches through dense oak and rhododendron forests, with the Pindar River flowing alongside. The trek may feel long, but the fresh mountain air and chirping birds make it an enjoyable walk. We will reach Dwali by 3:00-4:00 PM, where we will check into a guest house for the night. After a hot meal, it’s time to relax and soak in the beauty of the Himalayas.

A relatively shorter trek today! After a relaxed breakfast, we will leave for Phurkiya (3,250m) at 8:00 AM. The trail starts off easy but gets challenging towards the last 2 km, which involves a steep ascent before reaching Phurkiya. By midday, we will arrive at Phurkiya and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch. The rest of the day is for acclimatization, as we are now at a higher altitude. Enjoy the crisp mountain air, stunning landscapes, and the peaceful surroundings before dinner and a good night's rest.

This is the highlight of your trek! We begin early at 5:00 AM to reach Pindari Glacier Zero Point (3,660m) by early afternoon. The 8 km trail is long but steady, with stunning mountain views all along the way.

En route, we’ll pause at the serene ashram of Shri Swami Shraddha Nand Ji Maharaj—a peaceful spiritual retreat nestled in the high Himalayas. As you near Zero Point, the majestic Pindari Glacier unfolds before you, framed by towering peaks like Baljuri (5,922m), Nanda Kot (6,861m), and Panwali Dwar (6,663m).

After soaking in the views and enjoying your packed lunch, we begin the return trek to Phurkiya, aiming to reach by early evening. Enjoy a hot dinner and a well-earned rest at the guest house.

After breakfast, we start our descent from Phurkiya to Dwali, then continue the journey back to Khati Village. This 18 km trek winds through scenic trails that, though familiar, never lose their charm.

Depending on our pace, we’ll either stop for lunch at Dwali or enjoy a packed meal along the way. By late evening, we arrive at Khati, where a warm homestay and a hearty farewell dinner await—marking the end of an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to the mountains and begin our drive back to Kathgodam. As we pass through the picturesque valleys of Uttarakhand, you’ll have time to soak in the memories of the journey. We’re expected to reach Kathgodam by late afternoon, bringing this unforgettable adventure to a close.
